Shepard Fairey Paints in Hayes Valley

My friend and I went to watch Shepard Fairey painting a mural of Cesar Chavez, based on a photograph by Jim Marshall, in Hayes Valley the other day. Interestingly, at one point, all the people who had gathered to watch were women. Fairey and an assistant would spray the backs of these large sheets of butcher paper with some sort of adhesive and stick them up on the wall. Next they'd razor out certain areas of the paper (I'm guessing there must have been pencil lines on the paper for them to go by, though we couldn't see that from where we were), and then they'd spray paint the unmasked areas. It was a slow, and very cool, process to watch. We felt lucky.
